INTRODUCTION
Mentus Consultants UAE is currently managed by Mr. Tony Barry and Mrs. Khairiya Al Rais Rushton, wife of (late) Mr. David Rushton and a UAE national. The office utilises the experience of staff members based in the UK and Dubai. Six other consultants involved in BRC, ISO and Environmental Risk Management are based in the UK, adding to the service portfolio of Mentus.
Mentus Consultants UAE specializes in assisting Food Business Operators and Food Production & Service Clients meet the legislative requirements for training of Food Handlers, Supervisors and Managers. Providing the full-spectrum of consultancy and training services relevant to the food industry, Mentus offers the range of food safety and HACCP courses. These courses are tailored to prepare the workforce with the right knowledge-base for maximising service standards and overall performance of the company.
All training programmes of Mentus are globally recognized by leading awarding bodies including RSPH & CIEH. The courses are delivered by experienced trainers and industry professionals, who also undertake the training at the client premises. The flexible approach of Mentus enables the company to conduct the training as per the convenience of the client and in several languages including Arabic, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.

Mr. Tony Barry
Mr. Tony Barry is a qualified microbiologist and has spent much of his early career as an academic member at the University Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC). During this time he was part of the team that developed and delivered courses in Environmental Health particularly in Food Safety. In 1988, he set up the first commercial company based within a university in Wales Following a successful visit to the UAE in 1989, he was able to utilise the skills and expertise of the University staff of UWIC and link with the Municipalities of Dubai and the UAE. As a result several staff from Dubai Municipality undertook training at UWIC and a valuable partnership was developed, and UWIC currently has a number of links within the Middle East. In 1997 Mr. Tony was invited to join the Welsh Office (now the Welsh Assembly Government) and promote and improve links and development between Academia and Business particularly the Food Sector. In 2001 he was asked to head up a multi million project funded by the EU to enable businesses particularly within the Food and Bioscience Sector to access new technology and collaborative research in order to improve their processes and profitability. This project was highly successful in all its outputs. Mr. Tony was on the team of BLQ Consultants as Expert trainer & Lead Auditor.
Mrs. Khairiya
Mrs. Khairiya is a graduate in Physics & Biology from Tehran University. Her earlier education is from Florida State University, USA. She has extensive experience working in the Polyclinic at Department of Health & Medical Services, Dubai Government. Presently she is the Senior Administration Officer in Public Health Services Department, Dubai Municipality. She has years of expertise in managing public health, conducting training on Public Health Pests for Dubai schools and Basic Food Hygiene. Mrs. Khairiya has attended training programmes on Malaria control in UAE, Lead Auditors course, TQM (Total Quality Management), Customer Relations and Pests of Stored Food.

Eng. Mahmoud Sallam Mr. Mahmoud Sallam is the General Manager of Mentus Consultants UAE. He is a qualified Food Technologist, holder of Higher Diploma in Food Hygiene Management, Associate member of RSH, and member of AOAC & IGS International. With over 35 years of expertise in public health and food safety, his areas of expertise include Food Safety & HACCP and he specialises in helping Food manufacturing / processing facilities in Training, Developing and Implementing HACCP. Mr. Mahmoud is YUM certified Food Safety and Quality System Auditor, and Asia Middle East Bottled Water Association certified Auditor (ABWA). He is an approved trainer for Food Safety & HACCP by Food Control Department Dubai Municipality. He participates in Food Safety conferences and presents seminars at different governmental and private sectors. Mr. Mahmoud has extensive experience working for the UAE Government as Chief of Public Health Department (Food Control & Environment) Fujairah Municipality, General Secretariat of Municipalities Dubai, UAE (GSM) as Public Health & Environment Coordinator & Specialist.
Dr. Alan Dickson
Dr. Alan Dickson works for Mentus Consultants as Expert Tutor for Training Programmes in Food Safety and HACCP. He holds a Ph. D. from the University of Dundee, UK. Dr. Alan Dickson is the Managing Partner of Ridapest Pest Control Dubai and Pest Control Division of Al Doha Maintenance and Cleaning Company of Doha. His expertise in the field of Pest Control is an asset to Mentus Consultants. He has 34 years of experience in the field of pest control through UK, UAE, Baku Azerbaijan and Doha.
Mrs. C. Philip
Mrs. Philip is the Food Safety and Quality Control Manager for Mentus Consultants. She holds a Masters Degree in Food Service Management and Dietetics, and Diploma in techniques of Production & Preservation of meat, Italy. She is a Registered Honorary Tutor with RSPH, UK for conducting training in Advanced Food Safety, Intermediate Supervising Food Safety for Catering, Food Manufacture & Intermediate HACCP. She is also an approved Certified Food Safety Trainer and Auditor of Food Control Department Government of Dubai. Mrs. Philip has training experience in the field of Food Safety Management System for 27 years. Her experience includes experience as Senior Lecturer Department of Food Science & Nutrition at the Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology Mumbai, India. Her professional experience in the Gulf is through the Armed Forces Club, Abu Dhabi & BLQ Consultants, Dubai as Food Trainer. She has a proven career record in imparting training and conducting auditing for diversified Food Industries, Retail Hypermarkets, Hotels and multicultural clientele.
Mrs. Maharun Nissa Ousman (Administrator &Training Coordinator)
Mrs. Maharun Nissa is the Office Administrator cum Training Coordinator. She coordinates with clients to prepare and arrange schedules for prospective trainings. Her extensive experience highlights working with Whittal Boustead & Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka followed by BLQ Consultants, Dubai. Mrs. Maharun Nissa also manages preparation for audits and attestation of Certificates by Department of Food Control. Her strength is in independently executing all tasks under the management’s direction and is a proactive team member who works with high level of motivation.
